Mr.
Christian was elected to the IISD Board of Trustees in 2004 after living
and working in Irving since 1966. He holds a bachelor’s degree in
education from the University of North Texas with secondary school
teaching fields in mathematics and choral music. In 1968 he earned a
master’s degree in education from North Texas with a major in guidance
and counseling. He then completed additional post-graduate work at North
Texas in school administration, earning certification as a campus
administrator and superintendent.
Mr.
Christian was employed by Irving ISD from 1966 to 2000 as math teacher,
counselor, vice principal, principal, director of human resources, and
assistant superintendent.
Mr. Christian was re-elected for a second
term as President of the Board in May 2009. He serves on
the following Board Standing Committees: executive committee (chair),
policy review committee, and facilities & land committee.
Since
retirement, Mr. Christian has been an independent contractor as an
educational consultant for the Education Service Center Region Ten,
Teacher Preparation Program and then a volunteer advisor and
certification officer for Quality Alternative Certified Teachers. He
also is on the Board of Directors for Credit Union of Texas.
Mr.
Christian is a member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church where he is a
deacon, teaches Sunday school for adults, and sings in the Joyful Noise
Choir as well as the Sanctuary Choir. He is a member of the Irving Noon
Day Lions Club and a past member of the Optimist Club and Exchange Club.
He sings in the Singing Men of North Central Texas. He is a Texas PTA
life member.
Mr.
Christian and his wife, Kaye, have been married since 1965. They have
two daughters, Suzanne who graduated from Irving High School and Erin
who graduated from MacArthur High School.
