This is Mr. Stipes’ third term on the Board of Trustees.

2006-2007. Mr. Stipes serves on the following Board Standing Committees:
finance committee, chair; facilities and land committee; and personnel
committee.
Mr. Stipes comes from a long line of
Irving school supporters. His father, John Stipes, was on the IISD Board
of Trustees from 1970 to 1985, and one of the founding members of the
Irving Schools Foundation Board of Directors. John Stipes died in 2001.
Last year, the Irving Schools Foundation added the John Stipes Memorial
Challenge Grant given each year to IISD seniors overcoming significant
obstacles to pursue a higher education.
Stipes’ mother, Margie, has served the
District in many capacities including service to the Foundation Board and
more than 20 years as president of the Nimitz High School Booster Club.
Though Mr. Stipes has no children of
his own, he is also involved in the Nimitz Booster Club as well as the
Nimitz Campus Improvement Committee and the Foundation Board. He has a
fellowship in his name at the Irving Schools Foundation. He is a member of
the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Southwest Athletic
Trainers Association.
Mr. Stipes was a member of the first
graduating class at Nimitz High School in 1972. From there he went to the
University of Texas at Austin where he earned a bachelors degree in
physical education and health. After college, he became a licensed
athletic trainer and served in that capacity for nine years at a high
school in Fort Stockton, Texas.
Currently, Mr. Stipes is a sales
representative for Alert Service, Inc. – an athletic medical supply
company.
