Irving Regional Day School Program for the Deaf

The Irving Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) was established in 1975. The teachers are all certified teachers of the deaf.
Students who receive services from the RDSPD are those who qualify as auditorally-impaired and whose hearing loss interferes with processing linguistic information. A student's educational performance must be adversely affected by the hearing loss, giving him or her the need for educational assistance. A student (age birth to 22 years) is determined eligible for the RDSPD by the local Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee.
The RDSPD in Irving provides services for students with hearing impairments who live within Irving, Grand Prairie, and Duncanville school districts.

Supervisor, Regional Day School Program for the DeafMs. Cates is a graduate from Texas Woman’s University with a Master’s degree in Deaf Education. She has served as a Deaf education teacher for twelve years teaching mathematics, work-based learning, and inclusion. She has also served the district as a special education curriculum writer, and CIC member. She is also a certified sign language interpreter.
She has a passion for Deaf education, Deaf and Hard of hearing students, and ASL. She volunteers her time through various non-profits to give back to her community and loves what she does.
Ms. Cates is honored to serve the Irving Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) as their Supervisor. She is excited to see each student learn and grow!
