Recycling

  • Irving ISD is one of the largest recyclers of paper in North Texas and recycles approximately 1,000,000 pounds of paper every year. Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatt-hours of energy and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

Did you also know that schools earn money for, newspapers, magazines, shopping catalogs, office and school paper dropped off at one of our campuses retriever bins?!

Here's how you can help: Parents, students and families are encouraged to bring their recyclable paper by one of the retriever bins located on campuses.

Electronics Recycling

  • Rapid technology change, low initial cost and planned obsolescence have resulted in a fast-growing surplus of computers and other electronic devices.  Electronic recycling, or e-Recycling, is the responsible recycling of electronics, such as old computers, monitors, smartphones and televisions.

Certified e-Recycling facilities securely wipe computers all of personal/confidnetial information and safely complete the deconstruction of electronic devices so that toxins and valuable resources are recovered from them and handled properly.

Paper Recycling

  • Our Records Management Program recommends shredding everything. This alleviate any confusion in what is considered confidential or not.  By using our paper recycling vendor to destroy our records, we are compliant with the destruction of our sensitive documents.

    Increase security by document shredding

    • Documents are secured in containers

    • Documents are handled by experienced uniformed trained security personnel

    • Documents are cross cut then recycled, which results in total destruction

    • One bin serviced saves one tree

    • Documents destroyed are documented with a dated certificate of destruction

    • Documents handled by our document shredding vendor are covered by bonding and insurance

Our District is saving money by using document shredding

    • Eliminates paying a employee to shred records

    • Eliminates purchasing and maintain our own shredding equipment

    • Eliminates having to remove paperclips and staples so items will pass through the shredder

    • Eliminates messy clean up like dust and paper particles.

    • Eliminates the cost of disposing the records once shredded. One box of paper equals 5 large garbage bags!

    • Eliminates storage cost

    • Eliminates high service costs

Scrap Metal

  • Our Scrap Metal Program consists of waste metal or used articles made of metal. This program is managed by Facilities and School Support Services.  Items from Facilities and Maintenance are collected at the Service Center Warehouse. Assets Managment also utilizes this program for items sent to surplus that have no useful life left and can be salvaged for metal.
