With nearly 15 years of experience in corporate and community relations, communications, event management and marketing, Valerie Reyes-Braun has been named assistant director of communications for Irving ISD. In this new role, Valerie will be responsible for all aspects of the Partners in Education (PIE) program including maintaining and strengthening existing partnerships as well as recruiting new partners to support Irving ISD students, staff and programs. In addition, she will oversee the district’s special events and marketing efforts.
Since January 2014, Valerie has served as a communications and marketing coordinator with Irving ISD. Through this experience, she has had the benefit of celebrating the PIE program’s 30th Anniversary, interacting with many of the school district’s existing partners and building relationships within the greater Irving community. In her previous role as the executive director of Parents Step Ahead for five years, Valerie worked closely with school district officials as well as area business and organizational leaders. Prior to her work in Texas, Valerie served the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility in Washington, D.C. as its director of programs and initiatives as well as its manager of special events and corporate relations.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from American University in Washington, D.C. and an event management certificate from The George Washington University.
“Since she joined our team two and a half years ago, Valerie has been a tremendous asset to our organization,” says Lesley Weaver, division director of communications. “She brings energy, creativity and a desire to enhance the Irving ISD experience for students, families and community partners. Her professional experience coupled with her appreciation for community support and ideas to foster relationships with the business community make her an ideal person to lead the PIE program.”
