Halloween Horror-Cast
Students in CMAT (Computer Multimedia and Animation Technology) created Halloween soundtracks. They recorded their own script and mixed in background music and sound effects using Audacity. The result is a spooky recording that's guaranteed to give you nightmares. The music clips and sound effects were used from CCMixter.org and AudioCookbook.org.

Special Ticket Prices
(Saturday, November 8) Irving Symphony Orchestra: All remaining seats $5 (last-minute one-time offer) for Chasing Light - New American music by American composer Joseph Schwantner.  The program will feature Israeli-born Peabody Conservatory faculty cellist Amit Peled, one of the youngest and fastest rising cellists in the United States performing Dvorak’s powerful and moving Concerto for Cello. The presentation will also include selections from Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty.”  Tickets are available now and must be reserved in advance by calling  972.831.8818.

Students who were enrolled in the EPIC Learning System courses in IISD (Economics, Government, College Algebra) and successfully completed the course and earned college credit, you may now request transcripts from the New England College of Finance free of charge!  Please complete the form (attached) and mail (or fax) it to the address shown.  You may obtain your EPIC final exam and college exam results by contacting your high school counselor.

Fall Back: Ending Daylight Savings Time
Daylight savings time ends this weekend, at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 2.   Clocks should be set BACK one hour.  How do I change my clocks?  The law establishing daylight savings time says that at 2:00 am on Sunday, November 2 you should turn your clock back to 1:00 am.   In practice, just turn your clock BACK one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night, then your clock will be correct when you wake up on Sunday morning.

Mock Election
Irving ISD will hold a mock election for students to vote for the 2008 presidential candidates.  As in a real election, students will have to register to vote before the election and then come back to the election site and cast their vote on "election day".

The Reluctant Dragon Slayer
(October 30, 2008)  The Irving High School Theater Department presents a children’s play written by Gary Varner and directed by Shawn Brentham:  The Reluctant Dragon Slayer.  The story of a girl dealing with the challenges associated with Dyslexia.  She decides to run from her fears, but a zany group of actors tells her the story of The Reluctant Dragon Slayer. She confronts her own “Dragons.”   The play will be in the Irving High School Auditorium at 7:00 pm on October 30, 2008.  Adults $7.00 - Student/Children $5.00 - Irving High Faculty/Staff-Free with ID.

Meals Prices Announced for 2008-2009
Only minor changes for some student meals, and for adult meals, will occur for 2008-2009, the IISD Food Service Department announced today.  Even with these minor price increases, the Irving ISD offers some of the lowest meal prices in the greater D/FW area, as the table below clearly illustrates.  This means that students, and their families, will have extremely nutritious and healthy meals available at bargain prices.

Virtual Course - Online Health
The online Health course is being offered again this Summer.  This course offers students a flexible learning opportunity through a challenging, relevant online format that will lead them toward completion of their graduation plans. This will provide those students with greater flexibility in scheduling classes/electives by getting this required half-credit completed.   Also 1/2 of the summer tuition will be reimbursed if the student makes a passing grade in this course.

Learn to Speak Spanish (FREE Classes)
FREE Spanish learning classes for English speakers are being offered throughout the month of June.  These FREE classes are offered by Irving.Net and will be held at Irving High School.  Classes will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks (8 classes).  Just show up to the front entrance of Irving High on Tuesday, June 10th and signs will be posted on where to go and how to get started.

Microsoft will be hosting the DigiGirlz High Tech Camp in Las Colinas (Irving) on August 12-14, 2008 Our mission is to introduce 9th-12th grade girls to the many career fields offered within the High Tech industry. Projects can be submitted by students and staff alike in the Fall of 2007.  There are twelve categories that can help you decide what areas you feel you excel in!   We know you have some excellent projects in mind!

Athletes of the Month for November
Irving ISD Athletes of the Month for November are Brian Cardenas and Ccimone Fotuaika, both of MacArthur High School.  Cardenas is a member of the cross country team for MacArthur.  Fotuaika is swim captain for MacArthur, Irving and Nimitz High Schools for 2007-2008.

Academy Craft Fair
The Academy of Irving is proud to present our 3rd Annual Academy Craft Fair on December 8th from 9am−4pm.  We have over 50 confirmed crafters and vendors.  Also Santa’s play land will be open the whole day for  kids play for two hours while parents shop.  Santa is dropping by from 10am−2pm to take pictures with the little ones!

Nimitz Madrigal Feaste and Concert
Nimitz High School Choir Department proudly presents its annual Madrigal Feaste on December 6, 7 and 8 at 7:00 pm at Nimitz High School.  Reserve tickets early as seating is limited.
