The Singley Academy Gala Court is a representative group of students that
consists of a King and Queen, and Dukes and Duchesses. The King and Queen are
senior students, while the Dukes and Duchesses are ninth through eleventh
graders.

Classmates traditionally nominate students who they feel have made great
contributions to their school, then students vote for members of the Court from
the nominees. Once the Gala Court candidates are announced, the entire student
body votes for the King and Queen, and Dukes and Duchesses. The voting is
conducted by Penny Voting during all three lunches, where one penny is
equivalent to one vote.

The winning gala court will be announced the evening of Gala. Gala Dukes and
Duchesses are recognized along with the King and Queen gala evening. Gala Court
candidates are expected to participate in the Spirit Week's activities as well.

THE ACADEMY ... DO YOU KNOW?

DO YOU KNOW WHY .... (10.01.10)

"Mr. Brain, The Academy's school colors are black, white, and silver? All of the other schools have two colors? Why do we have three, and why those three?" from Academy Mind

"Academy Mind, another great question. The Academy, if you recall, was a satellite campus for students at Irving High School, MacArthur High School, and Nimitz High School. When we became a stand-alone campus, the student body voted to use the secondary colors of the other high school. The BLACK represents Irving HS ... WHITE represents MacArthur HS ... SILVER represents Nimitz HS. So with this explanation, now you know where the colors came from, as well as why we have three colors." Mr. Brain

DO YOU KNOW WHY .... (09.22.10)

"Mr. Brain, why are the chairs in The Academy Food Court such odd colors?" from Academy Mind

"Academy Mind, the chairs in The Academy Food Court are strange. When The Academy opened in 2001, the school was a satellite campus for students at Irving High School, MacArthur High School, and Nimitz High School. The YELLOW chairs represent Irving HS ... RED chairs represent MacArthur HS ... BLUE chairs represent Nimitz HS.
When the school finished the construction last year, two more colors were added: BLACK and GREY, which represent The Academy's school colors." Mr. Brain

STAY TUNED AND REMEMBER THESE FACTS. A SUMMATIVE WILL BE COMING!
