It's time to kick off the Thanksgiving Break with some fun! The Academy National Honor Society is inviting YOU to Main Event this Monday, November 24th from 6 PM - 2 AM (ending time will vary). Get ready to play some Laser Tag, show off your bowling skills, and more! Feel free to bring family and friends as well to enjoy this event together. NHS Members will receive 1 point for attending, so take advantage of this easy point opportunity!

<title>Paintball for Criminal Justice Students</title>

Criminal Justice Students will be participating in a paintball event with the Police Explores on November 24, 2008.  

Students will need to meet at the south station at 305 N. O'Connor at 9:00 a.m. on Monday.  We should be back around 3:30 and the cost is $30.00 per person which covers everything.  

You need to look at the website for appropriate clothing and We  HAVE TO HAVE THE WAIVER signed by the parent if they are under 18.  I have the waiver in my room if you don't have a printer.


Students can also volunteer as an actor for police officers in training.  This will take place Friday, November 21st, 2008.   You will need to meet at the south station at 305 N. O'Connor at 5:00 p.m. We should be back at 11:00 PM that night.  You should know that COG is a police academy and you are actors under whatever judges discretion so please if you go don't act up.  If you want to go you can call Officer Kaloi at 972-571-1534 if you have questions.

The Academy Craft Fair is fast approaching and volunteers are needed.  Mark your calendars for Friday and Saturday, December 12 and 13, to volunteer at the Craft Fair ... your help is definately needed. This annual event is a major source of funds for the senior class, but it is even more of a public event that brings the community to our campus.  <br><br>

<b>We need your help!<br></b>
Student Volunteers are needed for Friday afternoon and evening and all day on Saturday. Sign up to donate your time by using the link below.  Everyone who works with set up earns volunteer hours, even seniors.  If you are working a booth that brings in funds, however, cannot earn volunteer hours. Saturdays@SAM Is On The Way! Saturdays@SAM will take place November 22, 2008 and March 28, 2009. Students can attend academic sessions, tour the campus and see selected dorms. Students can also visit various Information Help Desks and attend a Student Organizations Fair to learn everything that SHSU has to offer. In addition to the following days, Red Ribbon Week Bracelet Bands will be sold during all lunches throughout the week for $1. There is a limited quantity for these bracelets, so don’t wait until it’s too late!

<title>Jail Internship Program Launched</title>

On September 8, four seniors from The Academy High School began the Jail Internship Program. Due to the efforts of Detention Supervisors Clark Nethers and Kristin Spivey, the Irving Police Department was selected as a pilot site for a national high school internship program for recruiting students interested in a career in corrections/ detentions and police work. The internship will consist of 300 hours of non-contact jail training. This certification program is the only one of its kind in Texas.<br><br> The interns are Elizabeth Garcia, Sesilie Rico, Maclovio Martinez, and Ricardo Ordaz.]]>

Academy Cares, our school's center for volunteer services and a wonderful resource for tracking ways to give back to our community, now has a web page as part of The Academy website. The button is found on the right side of the homepage, and the site will provides information on how to report volunteer hours, information about the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, and in the near future it will house about local events looking for student volunteers. In order to receive your volunteer hours you need to set up a profile and enter the correct personal and event information. There is a form that needs to be printed to acquire the volunteer event's supervisor's signature. This form can be turned in through out the year until March 3, 2009. <br><br>
