population, begins to cause serious illness and then spreads easily from
person-to-person worldwide. Why
all the fuss: The Pandemic
could impact our personal lives, family, and work:
Rapid Worldwide Spread,
Overloaded
Health Care Systems, Inadequate Medical Supplies, and Economic,
Education and Social Disruption.

Blitz
Attention all Certified Employees! The fingerprinting Blitz
begins September 8 and goes through October 8. Fast Passes must be
printed at least 24 hours in advance. The 80 Day deadline will be
November 13, 2009. Anyone required to have their fingerprints taken and

Fingerprinting
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is required to be fingerprinted?
SB9 requires all
certified educators, substitute teachers and classroom aides to be
fingerprinted for the national criminal history review by the FBI.
Other school support staff hired BEFORE January 1, 2008, are
subject only to a background check of state criminal records, which does
not require fingerprinting. However, support staff hired in 2008 or
later will be subject to the fingerprinting requirements, as will
contractors who perform work in public schools. Irving ISD will send
SBEC a list of all employees. SBEC will determine those who need
fingerprinting and will then return the list and notify the District as
to who will need fingerprinting. (read more) |

How do I change my clocks? The law establishing daylight savings

Irving ISD Disability Plan changes for 2009-2010
As
a result of higher than expected claims activity on the Irving ISD
Disability Plan, premiums for this policy will be increasing by 11%
effective 9/1/09. In addition to the increase in premiums, there will
be some plan design changes made that will hopefully allow us to avoid
future increases of this type. Below you will find a summary of the
changes that will be taking effect on 9/1/09 along with a brief summary
of what the change means to you. |

Reminder from Benefits Office
All
premium increases and benefit changes for the new plan year start on
your August paycheck (EXCEPT for Medical Spending and Dependent Care
Accounts). Health, Medi-Gap, Dental HMO and Disability Insurance all
increased this year. Also, if you moved into a new age bracket for
Optional Term Life Insurance your premiums for that benefit will
increase. There is also an adjustment for Optional Term Life on this
paycheck for participants as no Optional Term Life Insurance premiums
got taken out of the July paychecks. |
010-01-09 |
Error
on July Paycheck Deductions
Due to a code issue
with the recent Munis upgrade, employees who have the Optional Term Life
Insurance did not have their deduction come out of the July paychecks.
The deduction will be doubled on the August paychecks. This will not
affect any employee’s coverage.

Identity Theft: Steps You Can Take
Identity
theft is a growing concern as it affects more and more people in our
nation, state, city, and district community. According to several
sources, 64% of Texas households suffered from this crime over the past
six years (4.7 million people). In the U.S. as a whole, during this
same six-year period, victims spent an estimated 19 million hours to
resolve the burdening ramifications of this crime, and the financial
impact was an astonishing $2.4 billion. How to defend against
Identity Theft and what to do if you have become a victim.

National School Nurse Day - May 6,
2009
It all started in 1902, when New York City added nurses to
some schools to reduce absenteeism and to control
communicable diseases. The demand for and expertise
required of school nurses increased substantially as a
result of mainstreaming students with sever physical or
chronic conditions. This followed the advent of the
1975 Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA.)
During the last two decades, schools have begun to see an
increased number of student with asthma, diabetes and food
allergies.
