IISD Bilingual/ESL Summer Program 2007

The Irving Independent School District’s Bilingual/ESL Summer School Program is in full swing! There are 718 students and 60 teachers involved in the program this year!. This is a state mandated summer school program made available to  current Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade Retainees, Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.

The program utilizes a data driven curriculum to enhance the student’s skills in literacy and math. The teacher prepared lessons are highly engaging and hands-on.  Science content is used to develop language, literacy and mathematical skills.

A parent involvement component has been added this year.  The students will receive take home backpacks that will contain books and lessons that the parents and students can use at home. Santillana Publishers is bringing in Margarita Robleda, a national trainer from Mexico to train the summer school parents on how to effectively use the take home materials.
