Having the AlphaSmarts has enabled me to incorporate more technology into my instruction. For example, I have students who a participating in literature circles. Each novel group was assigned an independent research project. They used three different sources to answer a question related to their novel,created a circle map in PowerPoint, typed a summary paragraph on their AlphaSmart, and printed it from a Word document. I will be able to continue using the AlphaSmarts for writing and projects in ways that would not have been possible.

Next year I plan to introduce alphasmart applets to the students immediately. I would like to have them comfortable using the keyboard so that journal prompts can be entered and tests can be administered on them. So much time is wasted each day with sharpening pencils and shuffling papers. They could really streamline procedures if we all were comfortable using them.
