National Junior Honor Society
|
Austin’s National Junior Honor Society
is an organization of students selected by their teachers for
outstanding scholarship, leadership, citizenship, service, and
character. Students must maintain a 90% GPA and have excellent conduct
grades. The purpose of the group is to recognize students with these
qualities and to serve as positive role models for their peers. We
meet at least once each six weeks. Our activities include a friendship
carnation sale which serves as our fundraiser. Students purchase a
carnation and select a friendship/appreciation message to send to
their friends, teachers, and/or administrators. These are delivered
before the Thanksgiving break. We also host the Easter Egg Hunt for
the students at Pierce Early Childhood Education Center. Students from
this school walk with their teachers to our campus and hunt for
candy-filled plastic Easter eggs hidden by NJHS members and prepared
by students in the Life Skills class. A school-wide collection of
candy and plastic eggs to prepare for the event is organized by our
members. Our fundraising efforts go to various school improvements.
This year members will also serve as guides to various school
functions. Members assist Mrs. Sanders with the Awards Ceremonies. The
NJHS Induction Ceremony for new members takes place in May.
