Parents

The student is our number one priority and the passion of our teachers can best be explained by this quote:

“You must learn, you can learn, you will learn.  The fact that you have not yet learned means that I have not found the way to explain the subjects, so clearly, and so exactly that it is impossible for you not to understand.  But I will find the way.  I WILL NOT QUIT ON YOU.”--      -                                                                  -  Author Unknown

Our children are our future.  Austin takes pride in the role we play in building our future.  Our doors are always open and our children are always learning.  Go Broncos!

Family Orientation Nights Effective, but require adjustments
This was the first year that Austin hosted Student Orientations during the evening hours.  We had a wonderful turnout!  This event was held to receive all required paperwork and to familiarize the students with their new schedules.  Our new sixth grade Broncos initiated this event.  Although things did not run as smoothly as planned, all who attended received their schedules.  We want to thank the sixth grade group for their time and patience in working to perfect this event. We took your concerns and suggestions and improved upon the next evening’s events.

After some adjustments, the seventh and eighth grade students were able to complete the process in a timely manner.  We want to thank you again for attending this event.  We will continue to improve on the process from the feedback that was received this year.   It was our first year and things will only get better.  It has helped the faculty obtain all enrollment paperwork.  GO BRONCOS!

First Day of School goes as Planned
Most of the students and staff at Austin Middle School were filled with butterflies of anticipation on the first day of school. Wide awake and ready for a new school year, the students at Austin entered the doors with excitement. The teachers were ready to impart knowledge and the students eager to learn.

The new sixth graders were understandably hesitant at first with their new surroundings, while the seventh and eighth graders were excited to come back to see their old friends and teachers. Classroom rules and procedures were repeated time and again while the students listened with intent. Getting back into the swing of things is always tricky for everyone.

Summer is always a great time of year to relax and have fun, but at Austin students have fun on an entirely different level. Learning happens, new friends and memories are made, and great relationships amongst the entire Austin family are created. The first day of school brings all of those things back into perspective, and because of the preparation of the staff and enthusiasm of the students, this school year was no different. Overall, the day passed smoothly! The seven period day flew by as the final bell quickly wrapped up another successful first day at Austin Middle School!

Austin Middle School Hires Parent Liaison

Austin Middle School’s  budget  has allowed them to allocate funds to hire a full time parent liaison.  Austin Middle School is the first middle school in Irving to make such a move.   Rose Garcia is Austin Middle School’s new parent liaison.  She comes to Austin with an extensive background in parents services.  She worked for a very successful school supported by the Salesmanship Club.

Rose is full of ideas and ready to make a difference in the lives of our parents.  Her goal is to help parents become an active part of their student’s education.   She has already spearheaded several new initiatives, one of which is this newsletter.  This newsletter will be issued bi—monthly and will contain information about Austin’s school program.

Austin Middle School is committed to student success.  Student success is all also dependent on the parent and his or her level of involvement in their child’s life.  Adding this new position will help Austin Middle School build a bridge between school and home.

High School Credit Courses At Austin Middle School
Austin students start high school early! In response to the new 4X4 high school graduation plan that requires students to take 4 years each of English, math, science, and social studies, Austin MS teachers have gone above and beyond in getting certified in new teaching areas.

This has allowed us to offer high school credit courses to 7th and 8th grade students through elective courses. Students are currently taking French I, AP Spanish, Art I, TSMCL, Health, PE Foundations, Career Connections, and Speech.

Getting these credits while still in middle school will give our students more flexibility in their schedules in high school and allow for greater opportunity to take courses related to their specific career pathways.

Austin Middle School to add New Science Room
This year Austin Middle School will be adding a new science lab to help accommodate our growing population of students.  The new lab will be the new home for many of our eighth graders.  The Science TAKS test is administered in the eighth grade, our goal of the new science lab is to help decrease class sizes so that our students will receive more individualized instruction.  We are very excited to have smaller classes so that our teachers will be able to work more closely with the students, and we are confident that this will help improve our Science TAKS scores.
