Philosophy
The Bilingual/English as
a Second Language (ESL) Programs are part of the regular
educational program for Limited English Proficiency students
of the Irving Independent School District (IISD). Through the
recognition of the student’s cultural and linguistic
differences, appropriate instructional approaches will ensure
a student’s academic growth and build a positive self-image.
The primary purpose is to provide institutional support in
such a way that the learner will no longer need language
support to succeed.
Goals and Objectives
Irving ISD’s bilingual education and English as a second
language programs shall be considered an integral part of
every school’s instructional program. It is designed to meet
the special needs of limited English proficient (LEP)
students. It is of great importance that the following goals
and objectives be considered an integral part of the students’
academic goals enabling limited English proficient students to
participate equitably in school.
