It is critical that all students arrive to each
class on time, before the bell rings. In general, “Ready” is defined
as being inside the designated classroom, ready for each teacher to
begin class. Students will be considered tardy if not inside the
doorway. Late arrivals to
class create a major disruption to classroom instruction.
Since first period typically has the highest
rate of tardies, we specifically ask that parents help in making
sure that students arrive to school in time for first period.
The following is our procedure for handling and
accounting for all student tardies:
Upon being tardy, students must report to the
(computerized) tardy station in order to record the tardy. Our tardy
system is equipped to automatically notify parents, by email, that
the student has been tardy. This notice will include the date/time
and class period of the tardy, noting the consequence and total
number of times a student has been tardy. So that the school and
parents can work together as a team, please provide the school with
a current work or home email address. Parent email addresses are
then entered into our system for notifying parents.
Students will receive a pass that will allow
them to enter class that includes the same information as the parent
email. The teacher is given a copy to keep and the student is given
a copy to show at home. Consequences include warnings, one, two or
three hour detentions, in-school suspension, and the removal of
certain privileges or special activities such as field trips and
school dances. If your child begins to exhibit a pattern of late
arrival to class, you will be asked to come to school to conference
with your child’s administrator.
Please contact your child’s Vice Principal at
972-600-3000 for questions.
