New Moon Night
The Movie Premiere

Bowie MS hosted a New Moon Night, Tuesday, November 17, for fans old and new of the popular Twilight series. Many activities and games were featured including Native American Legends, moon cycles, and book trivia. A poster contest was held as a publicity activity and over 20 students showcased their artistic talent. Students attended in record numbers for the book/movies premier and Bowie fans are still deciding: Is it Team Jake or Team Edward?

ICE Awards

The ninth annual "Irving's Celebration of Excellence", or ICE Awards were presented February 28. Several Irving schools were honored for their achievements and accomplishments in various categories.
Congratulations to Ms. Sparks's drama department for earning the Silver award in the category of Fine Arts for last year's Superior rating performance of "Louder, I Can't Hear You" at the One-Act Play Festival. Way to go drama cubs! We appreciate the support of Mr. Moreno, Ms. Scott, and all of the teachers and students who attended the awards ceremony.

Also, congratulations to Bowie's 7th grade girls, 7th grade boys, and 8th grade boys track teams for earning the Silver award in the category of Sports/Athletics. All three teams went undefeated during the regular track season and FIRST PLACE in their respective grade division at the City Track Meet in Spring 2008. This feat has not been done in recent track history in Irving ISD.

Parent Step Ahead
March 12, Bowie hosted Parent Step Ahead Night. This is a program which informs and supports families in our community. There were sessions involving how to implement a discipline at home, good study habits, how to use logic when communicating with your children, and how to take advantage of the resources Irving ISD offers parents. Dinner, child care, and a chance to win a free computer were offered.

Destination Imagination
At the Regional Destination Imagination Tournament in Colleyville, Bowie's team competed against twelve other teams and placed second in their particular challenge. Donald Cummings, Bowie sponsor, stated the Bowie team did a great job of working well together, remained creative and calm under pressure and had a great time. The team included Jacky, Sigi, Justin, Kelsey, Michael, Eunice, and Haley. Congratulations, Bowie Destination Imagination team!

Ms. Brewster’s classes are studying illusion and reality throughout the periods of time. An illusionist, Jim Snider, entertained several of her classes with card tricks and magical impressions while students were left in awe. This was to illustrate the concept that often things appear to be one way while in reality, it is quite different.

Dog Tags for 6th Graders

Bowie 6th grade wrote a grant request to Donorschoose.org requesting dog tags for students. They were used to recognize good citizens- students that teachers felt might get overlooked because they always follow the rules and help out other students. 47 students were recognized in the ceremony. Students received a certificate and a dog tag on a chain so that they could wear it.
There will be another ceremony in the spring so students will be able to collect more dog tags for being the wonderful Bowie cubs that they are!
