The Bowie Honor Band is made up of 7th and 8th grade band members who have demonstrated the highest level of musical and academic achievement. Carefully selected by an audition process that lasts the entire year they represent the best that bowie has to offer in character, dedication, and performance. The Bowie Honor Band strives to challenge its students through difficult musical literature and the highest of expectations. Musical Expectations
Scales
For participation in the Honor Band each member is expected to be knowedgeable on the Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, F, C, and G Major Scales in addition to the full Range Chromatic.

Sightreading
All members in the Honor Band are expected to read on sight music found on the UIL list for grade 1 literature.

Pracitice Habits
All members of the Honor Band in consenting to be a member agree to practice on their own. Personal practice is the cornerstone of musical achievement. If you are unable to play it alone, you are unable to play it in the group. Practice at home, rehearse with the ensemble.

Performance's
All Honor Band members understand that this is the highest performing ensemble that the Bowie Band Program has. Membership in the group requires 100% attendance at all performance's. Should an emergency arise communication with the director is necessary.

Private Lessons
The Bowie Band has a full private lesson staff that is on call. Once a week a specialized instructor travels to Bowie to provide additional instruction for intersted students. The cost of these lessons is 16 dollars per half hour session. Although private lessons are not required for participation in the Honor Band excelling at the Honor Band Level will be difficult without this kind of instruction. Scholarships are available on a case by case basis. PLease speak with your director if you are interested.
