Sergio Mendez was born in Dallas and made his 1st
appearance at Bowie Middle School, then Bowie Jr. High, in 1989. While at
Bowie, Sergio took up the trumpet as his instrument of choice. Mr. Mendez
continued his studies of the trumpet throughout his Middle and High School years
making the all-city and all-region bands.
Sergio graduated from Nimitz High School in the Spring 1996 and two years later
decided to return to school to study music. Mr. Mendez began his course work
for a Bachelor of Music the Spring 1998 at the University of North Texas (UNT).
While attending UNT, he was fortunate to work and play with great players and
teachers.
Mr. Mendez’s talents lead him to find work playing various gigs in the DFW
Metroplex and landing a job at the prestigious Medieval
Times Dallas as a court herald (trumpeter for the King). Sergio continued
his service for Medieval Times until he was fortunate enough to return to Bowie
as Band Director.
Mr. Mendez is currently in his thrid year of instrumental music instruction at
Bowie Middle School. In the current company of exceptional performers and
teachers, Sergio strives to motivate and direct students to success through
music education.
