Phone 972-600- 4746 Librarian: Lisa Cartwright Clerk: Shirley Fritz Calendar and Signing Up I maintain ibrary calendars on Microsoft Outlook that everyone can access in the public folders. There is one for circulation (check out), library laptops, and library desktops. You can not sign yourself up on the calendar online, but you can check it to see what kind of availability there is currently, or in the upcoming year. To get on the calendar, you could call me, email me, or come by and talk to me about signing up.Passes School policy is to use a pass when sending a student out of class. Please take the time to handwrite one with specific names and times. Please do not send a student without any pass at all. If a student has a pass, then I know they should be in the library. If they don’t have one, I am likely to send them back to class. Collaborative Planning There a many ways to use the library:
· In conjunction with class research, I can teach how to cite sources and I will be glad to grade
bibliographies.
· · · · · · · There are many more. Please let me know how I can serve you. Library Classes Let me continue to solicit my services as a librarian to you. I can teach many different things to your students if you are interested in having me do that.
· · · · Contact me to get on the calendar at least a couple of days in advance if possible! Book Requests Feel free to come in any time to look for resources on any topic for which you need information. I am also available to help you locate things and can get additional resources from the other libraries with some advance notice. If you know of specific titles or subject areas for which we need more resources, let me know as soon as possible. I take this into consideration as I order throughout the year. Your opinion is VERY important to me- if I don’t have the books you need, you might no t use the library!A udio/Visual ResourcesWe have four sources for A/V: our own section of the library, other schools in Irving, the IC (which is now located at the Ratteree Center, and called Learning Resources), and the Internet. I’d love to help you learn how to use any of these resources. Don’t forget- before you show a video, fill out the permission form enclosed and submit it to the principal. It is available below and also on Crockett Library Blackboard page. To get a list of videos at Crockett, type in "videorecording" in the catalog and you will receive a list. To find out what the district holds, follow the same instructions on the IISD catalog.
Videos that do not belong to Irving ISD Form
Reserving Sources There are many ways to book media for use in the classroom. I can help you or you can teach yourself how to do it. Anything that’s owned by our library or another school is most easily booked using inter-library loan and the online catalog. Calling the ladies at the Ratteree is one option if it’s their material, and they also respond to emails. I recommend trying the online catalogs since they have great search capabilities. Videostreaming We purchase two sources of getting videos- United Streaming and Power Videos.. I can help anyone who needs training on these resources. These videos can be saved to your laptop and shown using your projector, but since they are big files, I don’t recommend more than one at a time. I can help you get started with this if you don’t know how to use it. I also have a packet of instructions for using videostreaming available if you’d like one. There are lots of things available on the Internet, but it’s not always ethical to use it for classroom teaching. Hence one reason for the video permission form. E-Books Wow has this resource grown this year! We are purchasing individual titles from Follett and Gale, some of which can check out to one person at a time for 3 days, and some of which are available to multiple users. Some can be downloaded, but due to the limited checkout, I wouldn’t do this too far in advance! There are a variety of other places offering e-books for free, but often with limitations, so it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with all of this before you use one. We have a special new page for online books, so check it out! A/V Equipment Please ask about checking out an overhead projector, CD and DVD players. Magazines and Newspapers Come by to see what we subscribe to. We no longer carry the newspaper in the library in print format, but I’d be happy to show you how to find one online. As always, the magazines are available for checkout for one week. Inter-Library Loans (ILL) One of the most important things I can do is get everyone books from other libraries. We call them inter-library loans. You can get them in several ways. If you’d like to search the catalog, you can put a hold on them yourself using your employee ID as your username and your PIN. Be sure to check the books’ availability. When I have time, I can do this for you if you’d prefer, so please ask me for materials on a particular topic. Just remember that it takes a few days to get the resources in, so try to let me know a few days in advance and I’ll get everything to you as soon as I have it. If you can’t figure out the hold process, just stop by and we will be happy to help. Databases We have several great research services you can use by clicking on the Research button on the library homepage: Ebsco, Gale and World Book among others are available 24-7. These are great resources we are fortunate to have. I would love to teach classes sharing this wealth with your students. Book Clubs Three book clubs are being formed this year- one for each grade and maybe others when the need arises. Look for emails or posters from the library if you’re interested in being involved or so you can promote it to your students. Encourage students who you know are readers to contact me, and I’ll keep a list of names so they can be personally invited. My goal is to get people reading for recreational purposes and talking about what they read. Readers are leaders! Double Minute Wednesdays Double Minute Wednesdays will be held every Wednesday morning. Students are encouraged to come into the library beginning at 7:30, but not later than 7:50 to read silently. Attendance is sent to all reading teachers. This year students will have the opportunity to earn READING ROCKS incentives as they attend. Laminator and Poster Maker The laminator and poster maker is located in the storeroom in the back f the library. Please read the guidelines on the laminator before using. It is turned on in the morning every day, but it goes off by itself so it doesn't overheat. There are sheets to fill out when leaving lamination, on blackboard and beside the crate or you can use the laminator yourself. Students are not allowed to use the laminator. Please give us several days ahead of time to laminate. We will try to get it done as soon as possible, but we are very busy with the "public" part of the library. Copyright Check out my link which contains a handout The Essential Copyright Information to remind yourself of some of the basics. Always feel free to ask me about any copyright related question. I may not know the answer, but I’ve got a wealth of experts available. |
