Under No Child Left Behind, one campus in the Irving Independent
School District, Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School must offer free
tutoring to students who receive free/reduced lunch priced
meals. According to the Texas Education Agency, the services
must be of high quality, research-based, and designed to
increase the academic achievement on the Texas Assessment of
Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) and to assist students in meeting
the state's academic achievement standards.
As a parent you may choose the tutoring provider from the
attached list of state approved providers. The tutoring will be
of no cost to you if your child continues to be eligible for
free and/or reduced lunch in 2008-2009. You will also
collaborate with the district and provider to set goals for your
child, to determine how and when progress will be measured, to
determine how the information will be communicated to you and
teachers, and to set a timetable for improving achievement.
Since providers will not have your names, you will need to use
the contact information in
the
attached link to the list on the Region 13 website
to learn more information about the providers. If
you would like your child to participate in the free tutoring,
please review the provider list, select a provider, and complete
the enclosed Application for Supplemental Education Services.
The completed form should be returned by no later than June 30th
to the principal's office at Lorenzo de Zavala Middle School.
Once received the district will arrange for services and contact
you with further information.
Also, please feel free to contact the campus principal, Mr. John
Rose at 972-273-8900 for any assistance. |
