September Board Meeting
Thobae
& Woodhouse Honored as Teachers of the Year
Kathy Thobae, special education
teacher at Farine, and Kristi Woodhouse, science teacher at Houston,
were honored as this year’s Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the
Year at a special meeting of the Board of Trustees held in the Irving
High auditorium. Both teachers received a plaque, a gift certificate
from A+ Teacher, a piece of jewelry from Gold n Carats, and $300 from
the Irving Schools Foundation. Thobae and Woodhouse were chosen from
among 34 Campus Teachers of the Year across the District.
Thobae has eight years of
experience in education; three of them with IISD. She came to Farine in
2000 where she still works as a special education teacher. Thobae has
extensive experience working with autistic children. She holds a
bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s degree
from the University of North Texas.
Woodhouse is in her sixth year of
teaching in IISD. She has served at Lamar for five years, teaching math
and science in several positions. She has recently moved to Houston
Middle School where she is an Earth science teacher. She is a graduate
of Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, but her road to a bachelor’s
degree took her through Leeward Community College in Pearl City, Hawaii;
the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu; Pierce College in Tacoma,
Washington; and Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
A reception for both teachers was
held before the meeting.
