Reagan Honored as Teacher of the Month

Susan Reagan, sixth grade reading teacher at Lamar Middle School, was honored as Teacher of the Month for April. Harris joined IISD in 1974 and has taught at Lamar for the past 26 years. She has sponsored the Lamar chapters of National Junior Honor Society and Student Council, served on numerous committees, and has been the reading department chairperson since 1986.

In addition to teaching, Reagan is active in supporting the North Texas Humane Society and Fort Worth Symphony.

Harris Recognized as Employee of the Month

Cheryl Harris, physical education paraprofessional at Thomas Haley Elementary School, was recognized as Employee of the Month for April. Harris joined IISD in June 1991 and has also served at Thomas Haley as a personal social adjustment aide for fourth and fifth grade students.

Harris is active in the community, participating in Blue Christmas and the Irving Citizens Fire Academy.

Academic Decathlon Participants Recognized

IISD Academic Decathlon students, coaches and high school principals were recognized for their participation in the Academic Decathlon program. The Nimitz High School team won the regional competition for the 18th time in 21 years and among the 13 teams in the large-school division, MacArthur High School placed seventh and Irving High School placed 11th. In the medium school division, The Academy of Irving ISD placed 10th.

Team members were introduced by their coaches and principals, who also addressed the board in describing the team’s hard work and dedication.

The Academy team includes Agustin Esquivel, Bernardo Frias, Jessica Harrison, Jocelin Montano, Vy Nguyen, Drew Noneman, Javier Perez, Taylor Terry, and Linh Vo. Coaches are Laura Hayes and Connie Cooley. Principal is Robbin Wall.

Irving High team members are Devon Albert, Julio Avila, Kevin Itty, Sunny Lovan, Brittany Parks, Jonathan Patton Mauricio Romero, Denise Serna, and Tincy Thomas. Coaches are Sandra Pettigrew, James Newman, Carol Lawler, and Julie Pritchett. Principal is Linda Kimm.

The MacArthur team includes Falaknaaz Ajani, Adrian Barry, Heather Bell, Jonas Beyene, Dylan Cowart, Daniel McCalip, Linh Nguyen, and Rachel Smith. Coaches are Sherry Martinez, Paula D’Spain, and Jason Lanningham. Principal is Cynthia Bean.

Nimitz team members are Austin Christenberry, Sara Enriquez, Murtaza Jafferji, Hyungoo Kang, Patrick Lewis, Celeste Martinez, Corey McMullen, Kevin Perkins, and Emarric Zipper. Coaches are Greg Jackson, Joanna Easton, Jeremy Chumley, Prana Thoppil, and Greg Thomson. Principal is Sam Bean.
