Board Seats New
Members, Elects Officers
The
IISD Board of Trustees certified the election of two trustees and U.S.
Court of Appeals Judge Mark Whittington administered the oath of office.
In the election May 10, Nancy L. Jones was elected to Place 1 and A.D.
Jenkins was elected to Place 2.
Trustees also elected officers for the coming year. Jerry Christian,
Place 6, was elected president; Nita Patrick, Place 5, will serve as
vice president; and Valerie Jones, Place 4, will be secretary.

Trustee
Jerry Christian recognized outgoing Trustee Michael Hill for his service
to the IISD Board of Trustees.

Dinkelkamp
Honored as Teacher of the Month
Terry Dinkelkamp, instructional technology specialist at Davis
Elementary School, was honored as Teacher of the Month for May.
Originally from Spokane, Washington, Dinkelkamp joined the staff at
Davis in 1999. He graduated from Washington State University with a
bachelor’s degree in industrial education and holds a master’s degree in
applied technology training and development from University of North
Texas. |

Sturdy
Recognized as Employee of the Month
Shawn Sturdy, secretary to the director of elementary teaching and
learning, was recognized as Employee of the Month for May. A graduate of
Nimitz High School, Sturdy has served Irving ISD for four years.
In
addition to her duties at the Administration Building, Sturdy is active
in the Stipes Parent-Teacher Association and the Irving Association of
Educational Office Professionals. |

National Merit
Students Recognized
Eight IISD
seniors were honored for having been named National Merit
Semi-finalists, Finalists, or Scholars, and five students were honored
for being named National Hispanic Scholars. Students are Zachary Nowell,
Irving High School; Jonas Beyene, Dylan Cowart and Jonathan Mascorro,
MacArthur High School; Austin Christenberry, Amanda Peralta, Kevin
Perkins, Maria Sanchez, and Emarric Zipper, Nimitz High School; and Hien Nguyen
and Mukund Ramesh, The Academy of Irving ISD.

May amendment to the 2007-2008 budget increasing the total budgeted
revenue to $271,271,783 and increasing total appropriations to

supplements to Irving ISD tax rolls. |
 |
Approved Resolution # 07-08-149 authorizing the
removal of certain uncollectible delinquent personal property tax

IISD Investment Policy has been reviewed and revised as required by

of 51 additional elementary science kits from Carolina Biological
Supply Company as a sole-source purchase at a total cost of $28,782. |

Approved Resolution # 07-08-158 authorizing purchase
of elementary science kits and durable materials from Delta
Education through The Local Government Purchasing Cooperative, The
BuyBoard, at a total cost of $85,224. |

Approved Resolution # 07-08-159, an agreement between
Irving ISD through Austin Middle School, Crockett Middle School,
Houston Middle School, Lamar Middle Schools and Kick Drugs Out of
America Foundation for KICKSTART programs. |

Approved Vision 2020 Grant application for $239,737
in order to build capacity to participate in the Texas Virtual
School Network and provide students opportunities to take online
courses through the network. |

Approved School Leadership Grant application for
$3,250,850 from U.S. Department of Education to assist in the
development, enhancement or expansion of innovative programs to
recruit, train and retain principals and assistant principals. |

Approved Resolution # 07-08-160 authorizing
continuation of professional services with the Epic Learning Program
for Irving High School, MacArthur High School, Nimitz High School,
The Academy of Irving ISD and Union Bower Center for Learning at a
cost of $169,750. |

construction documents phase for The Academy of Irving ISD bond
construction project reflecting an estimated cost of $16,538,795. |
