Parks Honored as
Teacher of the Month
Jennifer Parks, art teacher at Lee Elementary School, was honored as
Teacher of the Month for August. Parks graduated from Nimitz High School
and attended North Lake College. She earned a bachelor of science degree
from Texas Woman’s University and began her career in 1991, teaching
fifth grade at Good Elementary School. In her second year of teaching,
Parks transferred to Lee to teach fifth grade for two more years. She
taught fourth grade for three years and then moved to the art teacher
position at Lee, which she has held for 11 years.

Amick Recognized
as Employee of the Month
Marion D. Amick, Jr., security lead in the Security & Operations
Department, was recognized as Employee of the Month for August. A former
member of the United States Marine Corps, Amick joined Irving ISD in
2006. One of Amick’s most notable accomplishments in IISD includes
taking an active role in implementing the Campus Auxiliary Officer
Program.

Kinkeade & Gross Named Teachers of
the Year
Melissa Kinkeade and
Sharon Gross were announced as 2008-2009 IISD Teachers of the Year.
Kinkeade is reading recovery and literacy teacher at Townsell Elementary
School and Gross is choral director at Irving High School. The two
teachers were presented plaques and congratulated by the Board of
Trustees. A formal recognition ceremony will be held at the Board of
Trustees meeting September 2 at Nimitz High School.
