Kotula Honored as Teacher of the Month

Megan Kotula, gifted and talented science teacher at Austin Middle School, was honored as the Teacher of the Month for October. Kotula attended Ohio State University, majoring in environmental communication, education and interpretation. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State and began her professional career a naturalist with Green Acres Foundation in Cincinnati. Kotula moved to Texas in 2004 and, after completing an alternative certification program, began her teaching career at Austin.

Escamilla Recognized as Employee of the Month

Lydia Escamilla, attendance clerk at de Zavala Middle School, was recognized as Employee of the Month for October. Escamilla began work with Irving ISD as a bilingual aide at Good Elementary School and then was promoted to library clerk at Good in 1995. In 2002 she was transferred to de Zavala to serve as library clerk and fulfilled that role until 2008 when she was appointed as attendance clerk. An avid reader, Escamilla sponsors students to read through the 21st Century Grant program and mentors students at de Zavala.
