HIPPY Program Receives Honor

The Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program in Irving ISD was awarded Stellar Program Status by HIPPY USA as a result of a program review conducted by the national organization.

According to national officials, IISD HIPPY demonstrated high quality programming resulting in the greatest positive impact for children and families served by the program. As a result of the award, IISD HIPPY will receive a $1,500 monetary award and recognition at the organization’s national conference.

Approved Resolution #08-09-89 authorizing purchase of Cybersoft Primero Software Package for the Food Service Department through the TASB Buyboard Interlocal Cooperative contract at an initial purchase cost of $152,875.

Approved Resolution #08-09-90 accepting the General Curriculum / Least Restrictive Environment Initiative grant of $32,000 from Education Service Center Region 10.

Approved Resolution #08-09-91 proclaiming March 9-13, 2009, as Texas Public Schools Week in the Irving Independent School District.

Approved class size waiver for Spring Semester 2009 for 11 classes at six schools that currently exceed the 22:1 student-teacher ratio limit.

Approved Resolution #08-09-92 accepting first reading and filing authorization of TASB Update 84 and other local policies CQ (Exhibit A), CQ (Exhibit B), and GBAA.

Approved Resolution #08-09-93 pertaining to the election and resignation of personnel as recommended by the superintendent.

Approved Resolution #08-09-94 accepting gifts and donations to the district as of February 2 totaling $13,532.

Received announcements regarding 2009 ICE Awards.

Received information about filing for IISD Board of Trustees election in 2009.

Discussed development of the 2009-2010 school calendar including planning for staff development, a start date no earlier than August 24, and the board’s desire for graduation to take place June 4 and 5.

Discussed support personnel needs for installation, implementation and management of the new telephone system including the proposed hiring of a full-time permanent telecommunications coordinator.

bullet

Discussed the use of one scheduled weather day – May 25 versus April 10 – to make up for IISD schools and offices being closed January 28 due to inclement weather.
