Palisi Honored as Teacher of the Month

Jennifer Palisi, fifth grade gifted & talented (GT) teacher at Britain Elementary School, was honored as Teacher of the Month for March. Palisi graduated from Scotlandville Magnet High School in Scotlandville, Louisiana, and attended Louisiana State University.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, and began her career with Dallas ISD as a kindergarten through fourth grade Jump Start teacher assistant. Palisi joined IISD at Britain in 1998 as fourth grade teacher and after teaching third and fifth grades, became fifth grade GT teacher in 2002. Palisi has 11 years total full-time teaching experience, all of which was earned in Irving ISD.

Vega Recognized as Employee of the Month

Guadalupe Vega, food service technician at Barton Elementary School, was recognized as Employee of the Month for March. Vega joined Irving ISD as food service substitute in 1999.

She was promoted to food service assistant one month later, and became food service technician in 2002.

Irving.Net Receives Grant Award

Irving.Net and Irving ISD were awarded a Bronze Level Certificate from Texas Association for Literacy & Adult Education (TALAE) during the organization’s annual conference February 11.

In order to receive the certificate, Irving.Net and IISD met more than 65 percent of necessary performance measures while serving more than 300 IISD parents in the areas of English literacy and El Civics. The program is offered in partnership with five IISD schools: Irving High School, Nimitz High School, Austin Middle School, Lively Elementary School, and Townsell Elementary School.

Received a resolution from the Texas Senate, initiated by State Senator Chris Harris and State Senator Florence Shapiro, recognizing the 100th Anniversary of the Irving ISD.

Received written reports from the Division of Teaching and Learning detailing approved overnight student travel, from Division of Support Services regarding monthly maintenance work orders, and from Division of Finance detailing total tax collections and investment earnings.

Received announcements from the administration including information about the Irving ISD Job Fair on April 18 and information about filing for IISD Board of Trustees election in 2009.
