Board Seats New Members, Elects Officers
The IISD Board of Trustees certified
the election of two trustees and retired U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Mark
Whittington administered the oath of office. Previously, the trustees
declared Heather Ashley and Valerie Jones, who both ran unopposed, as
elected to the Board of Trustees during the regularly scheduled meeting
April 6.
Trustees also elected officers for
the coming year.
Jerry Christian, Place 6, was elected president; Valerie Jones,
Place 4, will serve as vice president; and Nancy L. Jones, Place 1, will
be secretary.

Garcia Honored as Teacher of the Month
Maria Garcia, bilingual
prekindergarten teacher at Pierce Early Childhood School, was honored as
Teacher of the Month for May.
Garcia graduated from Ponca City
Senior High School in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and attended Oklahoma
Baptist University where she earned her degree and certification in
early childhood and elementary education.
Before joining Irving ISD four years
ago, Garcia served as kindergarten teacher and early childhood teacher
at two private schools.

Smith Recognized as Employee of the Month
Barbara Smith, night custodian at
Irving High School, was recognized as Employee of the Month for May.
Smith joined Irving ISD in 1979 with
the Food Service Department and transferred to the Operations Department
in 1980.
In May 2008, Smith was honored for
30 years of service with Irving ISD.
