Austin began his teaching career in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and Itasca ISD. He joined IISD as history teacher at Union Bower Center for Learning in 1989 and moved to the Academy to teach history in 2001.

IISD Board of Trustees member Ronda Huffstetler honors Teacher of the Month Kenneth Austin, history teacher at the newly renamed Jack E. Singley Academy.

He became helper and parts pick-up person with the Warehouse Department in 2000 before becoming delivery lead in October 2008.

The MacArthur High School theater department was honored for having advanced to state in the 83^rd Annual UIL One-Act Play Competition.

	Approved Financial Statement for April 2009.
	Approved Resolution & Order #08-09-26 authorizing June amendment to the 2008-2009 IISD Budget, increasing total revenue to $282,350,698, and increasing total appropriations to $283,172,613.
	Approved Resolution & Order #08-09-27 accepting supplements to the Irving ISD tax rolls.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-164 authorizing supplies, services, reading material, and capital outlay of $189,833 necessary for the first six weeks of the 2009-2010 school year.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-165 amending list of authorized representatives for the local government investment pool to act as custodian of investments purchased with local investment funds.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-166 authorizing the purchase of Hobart ovens from Pasco Brokerage, Inc., for the Food Service Department at a total cost of $239,210.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-167 authorizing preliminary action in connection with the proposed IISD Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2009, in the amount of $65,000,000, in order to proceed with Phase II construction projects and qualify for state aid under the Existing Debt Allotment program.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-168 authorizing the conversion of the outstanding IISD Variable Rate Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2004-A, and Variable Rate Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2004-B, to a fixed-rate mode now that interest rates are near all-time lows.
	Approved the English Literacy & Civics Education Grant continuation application for $102,000 for adult education programs targeted toward immigrants and refugees beyond school age who function at less than a secondary completion level.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-169 authorizing contract with Head Start of Greater Dallas, Inc. for 2009-2010 to provide a full-day program to eligible students at IISD early childhood schools.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-170 accepting Competitive Sealed Proposal #09-37 from Overnight Press for printing of testing materials at a total cost of $90,000.
	Approved Resolution & Order #08-09-28 (A) pertaining to 2009-2010 salary schedules for classified personnel at an average increase of 4.5 percent.
	Approved Ordinance #08-09-02 designating acute areas of teacher shortage for the 2009-2010 school year in accordance with Section 824.602 of Texas Government Code. Shortage areas are: all-level bilingual, all-level special education, languages other than English, secondary mathematics, secondary science, and speech language pathologist.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-171 authorizing Memorandum of Understanding with Dallas County Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs (DCJJAEP) at a cost of $198,000 per each 25 expelled students assigned to DCJJAEP for 90 days at $88 per day.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-172 pertaining to the election and resignation of personnel as recommended by the interim superintendent.
	Approved Resolution #08-09-173 accepting gifts and donations to the district for the month of May in the amount of $18,697.
	Received public input on expenditure plans for 2009-2010 No Child Left Behind funds and 2009-2010 Title I Federal Stimulus funds available through the American Reinvestment & Recovery Act of 2009.
	Received public input regarding the need for child care services for school age students as required by Senate Bill 913.
	Received public input on 2009-2010 IISD Budget.
	Reviewed second draft of the 2009-2010 IISD Budget.
	Discussed need for Trustee appointments to the Excellence Now Committee for 2009-2010.
	Discussed implementation of the Senate Bill 9 mandatory fingerprinting process, scheduled from September 8 to October 8.
