Exemplary and Recognized Schools Honored

The Board of Trustees honored the three schools rated as “Exemplary”, and the 14 schools rated “Recognized”, by the Texas Education Agency 2009 Texas School Accountability Rating System. The three Exemplary schools are Farine Elementary School, John Haley Elementary School, and Stipes Elementary School. The 14 Recognized schools are Barton Elementary School, Britain Elementary School, Brown Elementary School, Davis Elementary School, Gilbert Elementary School, Good Elementary School, Thomas Haley Elementary School, Hanes Elementary School, Keyes Elementary School, Schulze Elementary School, Townley Elementary School, Townsell Elementary School, Lamar Middle School, and Jack E. Singley Academy.

Dr. Marie Morris, assistant superintendent for teaching & learning, praised the schools on behalf of the district. Dr. Cheryl Jennings and Randy Cobb, division directors of elementary and secondary teaching and learning, respectively, presented school principals with banners to be displayed at their campuses. Increased scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills tests are cited as a major reason for the overall improvement. Last year, no IISD schools were rated Exemplary and nine schools were rated Recognized.
