McCullough Honored as Teacher of the Month

Michelle McCullough, third grade teacher at Thomas Haley Elementary School, was honored by the Board of Trustees as Teacher of the Month for December. McCullough graduated from Bell High School in Hurst, and attended University of North Texas (UNT).

After earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration, McCullough worked in the private sector for companies such as Pacer Transport, MCSearch and Northwestern Mutual. She then served in various school districts as substitute teacher. McCullough joined Irving ISD in January 2007 as special education aide at Johnston Elementary School. She was certified through alternative teacher certification in August 2007, and was assigned as fourth grade teacher at Thomas Haley. McCullough became third grade teacher at Thomas Haley in 2008.

Garcia Recognized as Employee of the Month

Maria Garcia, food service technician at Bowie Middle School, was recognized by Trustees as Employee of the Month for December. Garcia joined IISD in August 2005 as probationary assistant, and was promoted to food service assistant in October 2005. She was appointed as food service technician at Bowie in 2006.

Trustees Recognize Holiday Card Winner

Trustees recognized Diego Castaneda, fifth grader at Brown Elementary School, as the 2009 IISD Christmas Card Design Winner. Castaneda and Teresa Mihaylov, his art teacher at Brown, were presented framed copies of the card Castaneda created as part of his art class.

Approved Resolution #09-10-46 authorizing design development phase for Middle School #8, a net zero concept facility that will produce as much energy as it consumes, at a preliminary cost estimate of $24,650,000.

Approved the submission of early dismissal waiver for high school seniors who are exempt from March spring TAKS administration to attend school after tests are administered.

Approved Resolution #09-10-47 authorizing an agreement between Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters U.S.A. and Irving ISD for the provision of curriculum and learning packets to help parents of preschool children learn to serve as educators to their children.
