Dolecki Honored as Teacher of the Month
Ashley Dolecki,
social studies teacher at Crockett Middle School, was honored as Teacher of the Month
for April. A graduate of Lexington High School in Lexington, South
Carolina, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and
philosophy from the University of Alabama, and a Master of Arts in
psychology from Rice University.
Prior to joining
Irving ISD, Dolecki taught as a graduate assistant at Rice and as an
adjunct at the University of Houston. She was hired as a gifted &
talented math teacher at Crockett in 2001 and currently serves as sixth
grade social studies teacher.

White Recognized as Employee of the Month
Violeta (Pinky)
White, food service manager at Barton Elementary School, was recognized as Employee of the
Month for April. She began her career with Irving ISD in 1997 as a food
service substitute and has subsequently received promotions to food
service technician, assistant manager, and food service manager. White
also serves on the IISD Menu Committee.

Watkins Named Outstanding Graduate
Dr. Jason Watkins,
a 1989 graduate of MacArthur High School, was honored as an Outstanding Graduate.
Watkins is a chiropractic doctor who established his own practice in
Irving in 1997.
After graduating
from MacArthur in 1989, Dr. Watkins earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology
from Baylor University. By 1997, he had earned his Doctorate of
Chiropractic from Parker College of Chiropractic, and he has continued
to pursue his post-graduate education in areas such as acupuncture and
radiological pathology.
During the past
nine years, Dr. Watkins has established himself as a valuable member of
the community while also providing leadership in the area of health
services. He has shown a keen interest in public education, serving on
the Safe and Drug Free Schools Committee for IISD. He has always been
available to students who cannot afford to see a doctor and offered
physicals to any student who wants to become involved with sports.
Dr. Watkins also
has served in two capacities on behalf of the City of Irving, as
chairperson of the Board of Health and as a member of the Solid Waste
Advisory Committee. In addition, he has performed volunteer work as part
of Irving’s church-sponsored Great Days of Service, a program designed
to help those who are in need of home repairs but cannot afford to pay
for them.
Dr. Watkins and
his wife, Lisa, have a 2-year-old son, Corbin. They reside in Irving.

Trustees Congratulate Academic Decathlon Teams
Board of Trustees
President Ruben Franco presented certificates to each member of the
district’s four academic decathlon teams. The Nimitz High School team was
congratulated on another successful year, including a fourth-place
finish at the state meet. On a special note, the Academy of Irving ISD fielded a team
for the first time, competing in the medium schools division.
Team members were
introduced by their coaches and principals from the four schools who
addressed the board in describing the teams’ hard work and dedication to
the competition.
The Academy
Decathlon Team consisted of Rema Almasri, Elia Delgado, Jarred Faris,
Anh Luu, Huong Nguyen, Aisha Souri, Fatima Torres, and Niraj Zaveri.
Coaches are Laura M. Hayes and Connie L. Cooley. Principal is Robbin
Wall.
The Irving High
Decathlon Team consisted of Devon Albert, Zachary Conrardy, Elvis
Ibarra, Kevin Itty, Joe Lara, Kala Loutrel, Jonathan Patton, Ana
Sanchez-Hodges, and Angelica Valerio. Coaches are Lindsay Hudgins, Terry
Fraza, and Carol Lawler. Principal is Linda Kimm.
The MacArthur
Decathlon Team consisted of Hilliana Estrada, Courtney Fears, Gerreka
Gilliam, Alex Holley, Bailea Johnston, Victoria Lane, Esosa Ozigbo, Jean
Paul Rojas, and Emily Stringer. Coaches are Brandy Wall, Sherry
Martinez, Darci Crouch, and Traci Benesh. Principal is Tracie Fraley.
The Nimitz
Decathlon Team consisted of Kathy Avila, Shehznan Baqui, Amber Birdwell,
Jeremiah Glenn, Michael Grant, Gemini Mathew, Matthew McCrary, Kyle
Robertson, and Nydia Vega. Coaches are Greg Jackson, Dionn Dahl, Jeremy
Chumley, Julia Friedl, and JoAnna Easton. Principal is Sam Bean.
