Wilson Honored as Teacher of the Month

Darren Wilson, instructional technology specialist at Hanes, was honored as Teacher of the Month for August. A graduate of MacArthur, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music education from Abilene Christian University and a Master of Education from Lubbock Christian University. After graduating from college, Wilson began his career as a band teacher in Dublin ISD. He also taught band in the Jim Ned, Crosbyton and Pilot Point school districts. Wilson also worked for Region 17 as a contact for Microsoft FrontPage and for Ralls ISD as a band and web mastering teacher. He joined Irving ISD as a career and technology teacher and then web mastering teacher at Irving High in 2002 before becoming an instructional technology specialist at Hanes last year.

Nelson Recognized as Employee of the Month

Bill Nelson, building manager at Johnston, was recognized as Employee of the Month for August. He began his career with Irving ISD in 1989 as a warehouse delivery person, remaining in that capacity until 1992 when he transferred to an elementary building manager position. In 1997, Nelson became custodial coordinator before returning to his present position as Johnston’s building manager in 1999. He is an Irving product, having attended Irving schools and graduating from Irving High School. Nelson also served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force in the 1960s. His hobbies include horseback riding and attending rodeos.

Torrell-Edwards & Overturf Named Teachers of the Year

The names of the 2006-2007 IISD Teachers of the Year were announced. Danna Torrell-Edwards, third grade ESL teacher at Elliott, and Kay Overturf, business computer information systems teacher at Irving High, were given plaques and congratulated by the Board of Trustees. A formal recognition ceremony will be held at a special meeting of the Board September 18 at MacArthur.

	Approved Resolution and Order #05-06-30 approving supplements to Irving ISD tax rolls.
	Approved Ordinance #05-06-06 approving 2006 Irving ISD Tax Roll from Dallas Central Appraisal District and declaring an emergency.
	Approved Ordinance #05-06-07 approving anticipated collection rate for the tax year 2006 and declaring an emergency.
	Approved Resolution #05-06-171 approving interlocal agreement for Region IV Education Service Center Safe Schools Project in the amount of $42,482.
	Approved Resolution #05-06-181 approving board appointments to the Excellence Now Committee.
	Approved Resolution #05-06-162 authorizing leasing print shop copiers through interlocal agreement.
	Approved Ordinance #05-06-08 approving and adopting the budget for 2006-2007 fiscal year; appropriating funds for each department, project, and account; declaring an emergency and authorizing other matters related to the subject.
	Approved Ordinance #05-06-09 levying school district ad valorem taxes for the Irving Independent School District, Irving, Texas, for the fiscal year 2006-2007, and tax year 2006, and for each year thereafter until otherwise provided; directing the assessment and collection thereof; and declaring an emergency.
	Approved Resolution #05-06-182 pertaining to internal agreement with City of Irving for security and peace officer services at an estimated cost of $689,049.
