Approved minutes
of Noon Work Session and Regular Board Meeting on Monday, September
18, 2006. |
 |
Approved
submission of Investment Capital Fund Cycle 16 Grant Applications
for Houston, Brandenburg and Farine. Each school is requesting
$50,000, the maximum allowable grant request. These proposals would
provide funds for activities to promote increased student
achievement on TAKS. |
 |
Approved
submission of Verizon Foundation Grant Application for Irving.Net.
The grant request totals $36,606, which would underwrite activities,
supplies and materials necessary to continue Irving.Net’s program. |
 |
Approved
accepting an award related to the General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
and English as a Second Language (ESL) from the University of
California for Irving.Net. In coordination with the Institute for
Mexicans Abroad (IME) Fellowship Program, the $15,000 grant award
will offer $200 stipends to adult students who complete Irving.Net’s
adult ESL program and take the GED test. The grant also provides an
$800 stipend for each of Irving.Net’s adult ESL teachers. |
 |
Approved
submission of Washington Mutual Grant Application for Irving ISD.
The grant program would help IISD provide high-level staff
development in Alan Blankstein’s concepts of leadership for change
and in Chris Yeager’s strategies for building academic vocabulary
using Thinking Maps. IISD is requesting $10,000. |
 |
Approved an
application for early release waiver to the Texas Education Agency
for hosting Regional Academic Decathlon event January 19-20, 2007 at
MacArthur. |
 |
Approved an
application for a waiver for TAKS testing days from the Texas
Education Agency. This waiver would allow senior students who are
exempt from February and April TAKS tests to attend school after
tests are administered, but not later than 12:30 p.m., and still
receive full-day ADA (Average Daily Attendance). IISD has followed
these procedures under a similar waiver for the past nine years. |
 |
Approved action
to permit Good, Keyes, Austin, Bowie, de Zavala, and Irving High to
timely submit their respective grant applications to the Texas
Education Agency as applicable to the Texas Educator Excellence
Grant (TEEG). House Bill 1 appropriated $100 million to award
schools with high percentages of educationally disadvantaged
students and a rating of Exemplary, Recognized or in the top
quartile of comparable improvement. Each school will receive
$135,000 except for Irving High, which will receive $230,000. |
 |
Approved a class
size waiver request for fall semester 2006. The fall 2006 class size
survey for K-4, conducted September 20, found that three elementary
campuses – Hanes, Thomas Haley and Townsell – had a total of three
classes that exceed the 22:1 allowable class size limit, each by one
student. Therefore, a waiver request form was prepared along with
the required compliance plan. |
 |
Approved
Resolution #06-07-09 accepting gifts and donations to the district
in the amount of $11,754 for the month of September. |
