Land Honored as Teacher of the Month

Kimberly Land, reading teacher at Travis, was honored as Teacher of the Month for October. A graduate of Nimitz, she earned a Bachelor of Education in English and speech communications from Texas A&M University. After graduating from college, Land began her teaching career with Irving ISD in 1994 at Travis where she continues to teach reading and English as a Second Language (ESL).

Castillo Recognized as Employee of the Month

Ofelia Castillo, food service technician at Crockett, was recognized as Employee of the Month for October. She began her career with Irving ISD in 1997 as a food service substitute and became a food service assistant two months later. She remained in that spot until 2002 when she became food service technician at Crockett.

CTED Contributors Honored

Gary Morris, local citizen and business owner, presented recognition plaques to personnel who have contributed time and effort toward the IISD Career & Technical Education for the Disabled (CTED) program. Morris honored Joyce Black, Billie Hardin, Mary Isbell, Veronica Quinn, and Cindy Will.

In Other Business, Trustees:

	Received and discussed Long Range Plan for Technology.
	Approved minutes of Noon Work Session and Regular Board Meeting on Monday, October 2, 2006.
	Approved unaudited financial statement for August 2006.
	Approved Resolution and Order #06-07-04 approving supplements to Irving ISD tax rolls.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-11 amending contract with SHW Group, Inc. to include professional services for procurement of scoreboards at district athletic facilities at an architectural fee not to exceed $5,000 without approval.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-12 selecting competitive sealed proposals as the method that provides the best value for procuring scoreboards and potential marketing/advertising rights at district athletic facilities.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-13 accepting proposal and awarding contract for Irving High dance floor project to Z Floor Co. at a cost of $23,900, to be paid through bond interest earnings.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-14 approving bids for custodial supplies from various vendors.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-15 accepting bid for towels and tissues from Olmsted-Kirk at varying prices.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-16 accepting proposal for e-mail security gateway appliance from Micro Systems Engineering at a three-year cost of $58,169, to be paid by technology bond funds.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-17 encouraging Irving citizens to vote in the City of Irving Bond Referendum election on November 7, 2006.
	Approved first reading and filing authorization of TASB Update 78 and other local board policies DAA and EFA (Exhibit). DAA covers equal employment opportunity, while EFA covers selection and adoption of instructional resources.
	Approved first reading and filing authorization of local board policy EFA.
