Rolon Honored as Teacher of the Month

Jessica Rolon, third grade bilingual teacher at Lee, was honored as Teacher of the Month for January. A graduate of Francisco Morales High School in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, Rolon earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Puerto Rico-San Juan.

After coming to the United States, she enrolled at Texas Wesleyan University’s alternative certification program to become certified to teach elementary school. Rolon began her teaching career with Irving ISD in 2003 teaching second grade bilingual classes at Lee.

Hernandez Recognized as Employee of the Month

Bertila Hernandez, food service technician at Lee, was recognized as Employee of the Month for January. She began her career with Irving ISD in 2004 as a food service probationary assistant at The Academy of IISD. Hernandez has since become the head cook at Lee.

April 9 is Make-Up Day

The Board of Trustees and the superintendent have agreed to designate April 9 as the make-up day for the school day missed January 17 due to inclement weather. The IISD school calendar, adopted by the Board of Trustees, lists April 9 and May 28 as weather days that can be used to make up for bad weather closings.

Approved Resolution #06-07-57 accepting proposal for Cisco Wireless Network at 80 percent E-Rate Schools (eleven campuses). The lowest cost proposal came from Netsync Network Solutions at a cost of $47,688 after E-Rate 80 percent credit is applied, to be paid with bond funds.

Approved Resolution #06-07-59 accepting proposal for Ethernet Wide Area Network from Verizon at an annual cost of $64,186, after E-Rate discounts are applied, to be paid with bond funds.

Approved Resolution #06-07-60 of the Board of Trustees of Irving Independent School District supporting disclosure of real property sales prices to the Dallas Central Appraisal District. The resolution encourages the Texas Legislature to enact legislation mandating the disclosure of real property sales prices, which would help appraisal districts accurately and equitably value real property.

Approved submitting the Texas Educator Excellence Grant (TEEG) proposal from Schulze. In November, Schulze became eligible for a $120,000 TEEG award, in which at least 75 percent of the award is paid to classroom teachers who meet campus-developed criteria during the 2006-2007 school year. Irving High, Austin, Bowie, de Zavala, Good and Keyes previously submitted grant proposals.
