McCoy Honored as Teacher of the Month

Rick McCoy, band director at Houston, was honored as Teacher of the Month for February. A graduate of Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, McCoy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music education and a Master of Science degree in educational administration from Corpus Christi State University (now known as Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi).

After beginning his teaching career with Corpus Christi ISD in 1980, McCoy transferred to Flour Bluff ISD before joining Irving ISD in 1989 as Houston band director. McCoy has also served as a team teacher with the MacArthur band.

Cox Recognized as Employee of the Month

Mickie Cox, secretary for staff development, was recognized as Employee of the Month for February. She began her career with Irving ISD in 1995 as a general clerk at John Haley. Cox also served as computer lab manager and campus technician for John Haley before becoming secretary for instructional technology. In 2003, she became secretary for staff development. Cox has been an active member of PTA for the past 25 years and has received numerous award related to her PTA service.

Approved Resolution #06-07-75 accepting bids for high school football equipment from various vendors in the amount of $32,090 to be paid by budgeted athletic department funds.

Approved Resolution #06-07-60 accepting proposal from Cingular for wireless phone service, with a variety of plans offered and cost based on usage.

Approved innovative course for Independent Study Mentorship (IISM) 1 and IISM 2, with focus on innovative course procedural changes.

Approved Resolution #06-07-76 approving interlocal participation agreement with the Local Government Purchasing Cooperative.

Approved Resolution #06-07-77 proclaiming March 5-9, 2007 as Texas Public Schools Week in the Irving Independent School District.

Approved Order #06-07-02 ordering an election of the qualified voters of the Irving Independent School District on May 12, 2007, for the purpose of electing three trustees to the Board of Trustees.

Approved Resolution #06-07-78 approving the form of employment contracts for certain employment positions. This action covers the following forms of employment contracts: term, probationary, dual-assignment term, dual-assignment probationary, and non-certified.

bullet

Approved Resolution #06-07-79 approving the contract addendum for incentive pay. The addendum authorizes employees to receive incentive pay while under the terms of their current contract.

Received a report from Board President Randy Stipes concerning board member continuing education credit.
