Board Seats New Members, Elects Officers

The IISD Board of Trustees certified the election of three trustees, and U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Mark Whittington administered the oath of office. Jerry Christian and Nita Patrick were re-elected to their Place 6 and 5 seats, respectively, while Ronda Huffstetler was elected to the Place 7 seat in the May 12 election.

Trustees also elected officers for the coming year. Michael Hill was elected president, Patrick will serve as vice president, and Valerie Jones will be secretary.

U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Mark Whittington administered the oath of office to trustees Jerry Christian, Nita Patrick, and Ronda Huffstetler.

Outgoing Trustee Ken Murray (center) was recognized for his service to the IISD Board of Trustees.

Dunn Honored as Teacher of the Month

Alisa Dunn, prekindergarten teacher at Kinkeade Early Childhood School, was honored as Teacher of the Month for May. A graduate of Coppell High School in Coppell, Dunn earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Texas. She earned her teaching certificate in 2004.

She began her teaching career at Children’s Discovery Center in Irving where she taught preschool for 10 years. She joined the Kinkeade staff in 2002 and split her time in 2003 between Clifton Early Childhood School and Lee Elementary School. She returned to Kinkeade in 2004.

Alisa Dunn, Teacher of the Month (right), was congratulated by Trustee Nita Patrick.

Lane Recognized as Employee of the Month

Mary Lane, campus technician at Stipes Elementary School, was recognized as Employee of the Month for May. She joined Irving ISD in 1987 as a part-time cafeteria aide at Townley Elementary School. At Townley, she also held the positions of physical education aide, library clerk, computer lab manager, and campus technician. Lane became the campus technician at Stipes when the school opened last fall.

	Approved Order #06-07-03 canvassing returns and declaring results of an election of trustees to the Irving Independent School District Board of Trustees.
	Approved minutes of Noon Work Session and Regular Board Meeting on May 7, 2007.
	Approved financial statement for March 2007.
	Approved Resolution and Order #06-07-16 authorizing May amendment to the 2006-2007 budget.
	Approved Resolution and Order #06-07-17 approving supplements to Irving ISD tax rolls.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-103 authorizing purchase of science kits from sole-source vendor Delta Education in the amount of $30,323, to be paid from current bond funds.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-104 declaring property excess to district needs and authorizing the solicitation of bids for the sale of Lot 7, Block A, Cameron Place Addition.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-105 authorizing preliminary action in connection with the proposed issuance of the district’s Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2007. This action authorizes RBC Dain Rauscher to enter into negotiations on behalf of the district to issue $20 million in bonds.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-106 authorizing purchase of EPIC program for summer school from sole-source vendor Epic Learning in the amount of $45,489, to be paid from unused high school allotment funds and summer school tuition.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-107 accepting bid for MacArthur High School tennis court repair and resurfacing from Western Tennis Contractors in the amount of $22,230, to be paid from bond funds.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-108 accepting bid for MacArthur High School tennis court fencing repair and replacement from A-OK Awning & Fence in the amount of $38,497, to be paid from bond funds.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-109 authorizing purchase of cafeteria serving lines from PASCO Brokerage through an interlocal agreement with the BuyBoard in the amount of $130,000, to be paid from food service funds.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-110 authorizing purchase of temperature monitoring system from PASCO Brokerage through an interlocal agreement with the BuyBoard in the amount of $140,000, to be paid from food service funds.
	Approved application for Professional Development for Schools, Teachers, Administrators and Regions (STAR) Grant. The grant, in the amount of $479,738, would provide proven, research-based professional development that would assist schools in effectively integrating advanced technologies.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-111 accepting 2007 Facilities Needs Assessment Study.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-112 authorizing amendments of the district’s self-funded employee health care program. The amendments to the plan include changes to the Stop Loss Agreement and Administrative Services Agreement. There are no changes to the plan design or employee costs.
	Approved Resolution and Order #06-07-18 approving 2007-2008 salary schedules for teachers.
	Approved Resolution #06-07-114 calling a special emergency meeting for Tuesday, May 22, 2007.
	Reviewed 2007-2008 first budget draft with preliminary recommended staffing needs.
