Geedy Honored as Teacher of the Month

Jennifer Geedy, fifth grade bilingual teacher at Townsell Elementary School, was honored as Teacher of the Month for August. A graduate of Brighton High School in Rochester, New York, Geedy earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and Spanish from Sunny Cortland College in Cortland, New York. She also spent time at the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain where she continued her education in Spanish as well as Buffalo State University in Buffalo, New York.

Geedy began teaching seventh and eighth grade special education in Buffalo, New York. She relocated to Dallas in 1996 where she taught at the John F. Kennedy Learning Center in Dallas ISD. Geedy moved to Irving ISD in 2003 and has spent the past four years in bilingual education at Townsell.

Lane Recognized as Employee of the Month

Todd Lane, grounds foreman at Facilities Services, was recognized as Employee of the Month for August. He began his career with Irving ISD in August 2005. Since accepting the challenge of leading the Grounds Section of Facilities Services, his area has maintained an exceptional response record to various landscaping needs throughout the district.

Lane spends time away from work with his wife and three daughters as well as supporting his church. His favorite hobby is fishing.

Barnes & Jackson Named Teachers of the Year

The names of the 2007-2008 IISD Teachers of the Year were announced. Chris Barnes, fifth grade science teacher at Elliott Elementary School last year (who is teaching at Lively Elementary School this year), and Greg Jackson, math teacher and Academic Decathlon head coach at Nimitz High School, were given plaques and congratulated by the Board of Trustees.

A formal recognition ceremony will be held at a special meeting of the trustees September 17 at Nimitz High School.

Approved Resolution #06-07-174 approving CIGNA’s administrative services only agreement and Connecticut General Company’s stop loss contract related to the IISD Employee Health Care Plan.

Approved Resolution #06-07-175 approving the change in math and science stipends from supplemental duty payments included in annual salary to stipend payments paid as special earnings.

Approved Resolution #06-07-176 authorizing the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Council for History Education.
