Morgan Named Outstanding Graduate

Jason Morgan, a 1989 graduate of Irving High School, was honored as an Outstanding Graduate. Morgan is the founder and Executive Director of the Stolen Shakespeare Guild, a non-profit theatre company whose mission is to bring Shakespeare to the general public in a way that is both fresh and entertaining. He also teaches acting, theatre appreciation, and film appreciation at Tarrant County College - South Campus.

After graduating from Irving High in 1989, Morgan attended Stephen F. Austin University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre. He later earned his Master of Arts in Theatre from Texas Woman’s University.

Morgan has appeared in more than 100 stage and independent film productions and directed more than 20 stage productions. Around the D/FW area, he has performed at venues such as Irving Community Theater, Fort Worth Community Theatre, Pocket Sandwich Theatre, and Theatre Arlington.

His major focus is the Stolen Shakespeare Guild, which seeks to debunk the myth that Shakespeare and other forms of theatre are inaccessible to the modern audience. His wife, Lauren, also lends her talent and assistance in organizing Guild performances throughout the year.

Banners Presented to Recognized Schools

On behalf of the Irving ISD Board of Trustees, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Marie Morris praised five IISD schools for their Recognized ratings through the state’s 2007 Texas School Accountability Rating System. They are Austin Middle School, Gilbert Elementary School, Good Elementary School, Hanes Elementary School, and Lamar Middle School.

Banners were presented to the schools by Dr. Cheryl Jennings, division director of elementary teaching and learning, and Tracie Fraley, division director of secondary teaching and learning. Improvement in scores for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) is a major reason for the overall improvement. Last year, four IISD schools received the Recognized rating.
