Sims Honored as Teacher of the Month

Lori Sims, business teacher at MacArthur High School, was honored as Teacher of the Month for October. A graduate of Jim Ned High School in Tuscola, Texas, Sims earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business education from Hardin-Simmons University.

After teaching in other districts for several years, she joined the Irving ISD and has taught nine years, seven at MacArthur and two at Irving High.

Lori Sims, Teacher of the Month, was congratulated by Trustee Jerry Christian.

Lambeth Recognized as Employee of the Month

Rachel Lambeth, data processing clerk at Austin Middle School, was recognized as Employee of the Month for October. She began her career with Irving ISD in 2002 as an ISS aide at Austin and later moved to the school office.

IISD Earns Top Financial Rating

Irving ISD has received the highest possible rating from the state's School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). The district was given a Superior Achievement rating, confirming its excellence in managing and reporting taxpayer dollars, even in difficult financial times.

This is the fifth year of School FIRST, a system developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Legislature in 1999. School FIRST seeks to ensure quality performance in the management of school financial resources. The rating was based on financial numbers from the 2005-2006 school year.

The School FIRST system assigns one of four financial accountability ratings to school districts – Superior Achievement, Above Standard Achievement, Standard Achievement, and Substandard Achievement. IISD has received the highest possible rating in all five years of the system's existence.

Rachel Lambeth, Employee of the Month, was congratulated by Trustee Valerie Jones.

	Approved the unaudited financial statement for August 2007.
	Approved Resolution and Order#07-08-04 approving supplements to the Irving ISD tax rolls.
	Accepted the schematic design for Irving High School science labs addition bond construction project.
	Accepted the schematic design for MacArthur High School science labs addition bond construction project.
	Accepted the schematic design for Nimitz High School science labs addition bond construction project.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-26 accepting bids for Food Service uniforms.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-27 accepting bids for custodial supplies.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-28 authorizing purchase of graphing calculators through interlocal agreement.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-29 authorizing purchase of science lab equipment through interlocal agreement.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-30 authorizing purchase of Reading A-Z License through interlocal agreement.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-31 approving first amendment to personal property lease with Danka Office Imaging Company.
	Approved Career & Technical Education innovative courses including Forensics, Geographic Information Systems, Introduction to Culinary Arts, Introduction to Homeland Security, Introduction to Veterinary Assistant Technology, and Sports Entertainment & Marketing Management.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-32 approving professional services agreement with International Society for Technology.
	Approved Ordinance #07-08-01 relating to the taxation of tangible personal property in transit (goods in transit) and providing for other matters in connection with the subject.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-33 awarding a contract to Charter Builders, Ltd. for construction manager-at-risk on the final phase of 2001 bond construction projects.
	Held a public hearing regarding the District’s rating on the state’s financial accountability system, Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas.
	Discussed Board of Trustees meeting dates for canvassing the 2007 Bond Election results.
