Brewer Honored as Teacher of the Month

Stephenie Brewer, fifth grade teacher at Good Elementary School, was honored as Teacher of the Month for January. After graduating in 2002 from Abilene Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Brewer began her teaching career at Good.

She is an alumnae of Jenks High School in Jenks, Oklahoma, and is certified and Highly Qualified in elementary reading, elementary self-contained, and English as a second language for grades one through eight.

Hernandez Recognized as Employee of the Month

Mauricio Hernandez, building manager at Houston Middle School, was honored as Employee of the Month for January. Joining IISD in November 1992, Hernandez began his employment as a custodial substitute and attained his current position of building manager in 2001.

Since beginning his career with IISD, Hernandez has worked as night custodian and interim building manager. In his spare time, Hernandez enjoys working as a painter and taking an active role in his community.

IISD Students Honor Trustees for Board Recognition Month

Seven senior class students from the four IISD high schools presented certificates to the Board of Trustees in observance of Texas’ School Board Recognition Month. Students making presentations were: Jonathan Krabacher, Irving High; Gretchen Geltemeyer, MacArthur; Austin Christenberry, Nimitz; Margarita Aguirre, Academy; Zaira Herrera, Irving High; Vincent Jaramillo, MacArthur; and Sara Enriquez, Nimitz.

In a presentation observing School Board Appreciation Month, Board Vice President Nita Patrick is recognized by Gretchen Geltemeyer, senior at MacArthur High School, on behalf of Irving ISD.

In a presentation observing School Board Appreciation Month, Board Secretary Valerie Jones is recognized by Austin Christenberry, senior at Nimitz High School, on behalf of Irving ISD.

In a presentation observing School Board Appreciation Month, Trustee Barbara Cardwell is recognized by Margarita Aguirre, senior at The Academy, on behalf of Irving ISD.

In a presentation observing School Board Appreciation Month, Trustee Jerry Christian is recognized by Zaira Herrera, senior at Irving High School, on behalf of Irving ISD.

In a presentation observing School Board Appreciation Month, Ronda Huffstetler is recognized by Vincent Jaramillo, senior at MacArthur High School, on behalf of Irving ISD.

In Other Business, Trustees:

	Received a presentation and conducted a public hearing on the district’s annual Academic Excellence Indicator System report.
	Received a statement from a community member regarding the 2008-2009 school calendar.
	Received presentations related to School Board Recognition month from representatives of the Association of Texas Professional Educators and the Irving Education Association.
	Approved minutes of Noon Work Session and Regular Board Meeting held on Monday, December 17, 2007.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-67 renewing the Master Consulting Services Agreement and Statements of Work with the Gallup Organization for Consulting Services’ TeacherInsight and PrincipalInsight systems, involving a total cost of $38,427.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-68 approving the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of North Texas to provide certification services to bilingual teachers from other countries.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-69 accepting proposal for Cisco Wireless Networks at 80% E-Rate discount eligible schools for a discounted cost of $53,013. If E-Rate discounts are not approved, the district may reduce the scope of services or cancel the projects at no cost to the district.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-70 accepting proposal for Cisco Wireless Networks at 90% E-Rate discount eligible schools for a discounted cost of $11,692. If E-Rate discounts are not approved, the district may reduce the scope of services or cancel the projects at no cost to the district.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-71 ratifying Professional Services Agreement for speech pathology services from an external contractor.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-72 ratifying Professional Services Agreement for orientation and mobility services from an outside source.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-73 ratifying the availability of a Professional Services Agreement for instructional services for the visually impaired.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-74 accepting proposal from Psychological Software Solutions for behavior tracking software, not to exceed a total cost of $196,000 for a three-year contract.
	Approved Resolution & Order # 07-08-09 accepting fund balance designations for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2007.
	Approved of Resolution # 07-08-75 amending Resolution # 06-07-169 for authorizing use of remaining 2001 bond funds for architectural services at the Administration Annex and Food Service Center.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-76 amending the contract with SHW Group, Inc. for remainder of 2007 Phase I Bond Projects – Package A.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-77 authorizing competitive sealed bids as the Method of Procurement for building maintenance and repair service contracts.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-78 establishing the form of service contracts for building maintenance and repair.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-79 casting vote for Jerry O. Jones in the runoff election for the fifth member of the Dallas Central Appraisal District’s Board of Directors.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-80 rejecting Program Year 2007 new proposals to provide local telephone services and approving contract renewal for continued service provided by Verizon at an E-Rate discounted cost of $506,409.
	Approved Irving Independent School District’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2007.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-81 accepting Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of $3,477,385 for Security Initiative Bond Construction Project.
	Approved second reading and adoption of TASB Update 81 and other local policies BBG, DEE, FFAC, and FM.
	Received a written report from IISD Teaching & Learning Department regarding various schools’ approved overnight educational trips.
	Approved Resolution # 07-08-83 pertaining to personnel as recommended by the administration.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-82 authorizing the acquisition of lots 11, 12, and 13 of the C.E. McLemore subdivision and the abandonment of a related public street and alleyway.
	Approved Resolution #07-08-84 pertaining to action regarding the employment contract of a district employee.
