Flood Honored as Teacher of the Month

Paloma Flood, advanced-placement Spanish teacher at Lamar Middle School, was honored by the IISD Board of Trustees as Teacher of the Month for November.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Flood moved to the United States and attended junior college at Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Niceville, Florida, then attended Tarrant County Junior College. She transferred to University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. She earned her masters degree in Spanish literature at UTA.

Flood joined Irving ISD as Spanish teacher at Crocket Middle School and Lamar Middle School in 2002. She became full-time Spanish teacher at Lamar in 2006.

Melendez Recognized as Employee of the Month

Saqueo Melendez, building manager at Austin Middle School, was recognized by IISD Trustees as Employee of the Month for November.

Melendez joined IISD in 1994 as substitute custodian and became night custodian at Austin in 1995. After serving with the floor care team and night lead, Melendez was promoted to the position of building manager in 2001.
