Academy of Irving ISD won $700 during the National Foundation for
Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) Greater Dallas annual student business
plan competition held May 4.
Mora’s business plan

October to compete in NFTE’s Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. She will
be competing for $10,000 to invest in her teen business.
Her business, Mora’s

postcards and assembling the postcards for mailing.
Ashley became
involved with running a teen business after being introduced to
entrepreneurship in her marketing class by her teacher, Kimberly Watson,
who was named NFTE Apprentice Teacher of the Year last year.
Lupe Recendez and
Zackary McDowell of MacArthur High School also competed in the Greater
Dallas competition, along with students from Dallas ISD. NFTE’s
entrepreneurship education program teaches students the business skills
to start their own small business, while reinforcing academic and life
skills.
The business plan

and defend business plans before a panel of local judges and compete for
seed capital prizes ranging from $100 to $700.
