Students to Visit Court Justices
Two
Nimitz High School seniors, Jaclyn Le and Jonathan O’Connor, have been
invited to Washington, D.C. by the Annenberg Foundation to participate
in sessions with U.S. Supreme Court justices.
|

Jonathan O'Connor and Jaclyn Le |
Le
and O’Connor will be led by Chief Justice John Roberts, Justices Stephen
Breyer, Anthony Kennedy, and Antonin Scalia, and Retired Justice Sandra
Day O’Connor. The students’ trip will be November 4-6.
The
students have had to prepare by studying two court cases, Yick Wo v.
Hopkins and Korematsu v. United States, in addition to
preparing questions regarding judicial interpretation and the federal
court system in general.
While there, the foundation has asked the students to participate in
another project – production of a DVD on the legislative process that
will include a visit with Congressman Pete Sessions as part of the
videotaped footage.
Le
and O’Connor are seniors in Helen Bradley’s Advanced Placement
Government class. They were selected because of their willingness to
take on extra tasks, such as entering social studies competitions, and
because they are good role models and articulate individuals.
