IISD Ranked in Top 50 for Safe Net Search

Irving ISD has been ranked among the top 50 school districts keeping kids safest on the Internet using the netTrekker d.i. Internet search software.

Other Dallas-Fort Worth area school districts listed in the top 50 safest searchers are Little Elm, Mesquite, Plano, and Highland Park.

NetTrekker d.i. is used annually by more than 11 million students, 600,000 teachers and 20,000 schools in the United States. The software combines the efforts of experienced educators and computer technology to eliminate links to any pornographic, offensive, useless, or commercial sites. When users search for information on the Internet in an educational setting, only academically relevant and standards-aligned sites are returned, giving students and educators more time to efficiently focus on teaching and learning. To date, IISD users have accessed more than 488,809 pages through netTrekker d.i.

Irving ISD has subscribed to the netTrekker d.i. software system since Fall 2005.

Schools to Pilot Online Grades Access

Four IISD schools are scheduled this month to begin pilot testing parent access to their students’ grades online. Parents and teachers at MacArthur High School, Lamar Middle School, and Townsell and Gilbert elementary schools will begin using the program during the first week in April and will test the effectiveness of the program through the end of the current school year.

According to Dr. Alice Owen, executive director for technology, parents have been asking for ways to access information about their students online. She said the test phase should help IISD officials determine the best ways for parents to have access to grades and attendance, and provide up-to-date communication with parents.
