Custodial Services

Welcome to our Custodial Services webpage!

We’ve listed information that hopefully gives you a good picture of who we are and what services we provide for our district. After reviewing this site, should you have any questions or comments please contact our Operations Manager, Diana Tatum, at 972.261.5117 or dtatum@irvingisd.net.

Within the larger Security and Operations department, ours is the largest team of employees with 177 full-time members. As well, during the school year, we employ up to 25 substitute custodians. Together, our cleaners maintain and clean some 4.8 million square feet of building space daily. To put this in perspective, if the average home in Texas is 1,800 square feet, then our cleaners maintain and clean some 2,666 homes every weekday! And our folks approach their tasks with vigor and resolve! Daily we strive to create a clean, safe, and functional learning environment for our students and teachers.

Each elementary school is staffed by a building manager (who works during the day), a night lead (nighttime supervisor) and at least one night custodian. Our typical middle school is staffed by a building manager, night lead, cafeteria custodian, and four night custodians. Our typical high school has a building manager, day custodian, cafeteria custodian, night lead, and eight night custodians. In addition to our cleaners, we also staff a Floor Care Team. This group is highly skilled in the care of all types of flooring.

To lead this large team of dedicated personnel, we have three custodial coordinators; one works during the day, the other two during the evening hours. Together, they ensure our schools are clean and ready to go for students and staff each and every day. From ensuring that restrooms are well stocked to making sure each custodial employee is equipped for success, these supervisors are involved.

Custodial equipment and supplies are an obvious and integral component of our operations. We strive to procure only the finest of each so as to supply our custodians with tools which allow for efficiency and ease of use, and which bring about the desired results sought. Each custodian is thoroughly trained to operate equipment ranging from slow-speed floor buffers to state-of-the-art ride-on equipment.

We’re proud to provide cleaning services for our district. In our way, we feel we’re making a contribution to the education process: kids can learn in clean and safe buildings. And to this end we commit our best energy!
