Many district residents
have noticed a flurry of construction activity going on at
800 O’Connor. What is this all about? The IISD Food
Service Department is moving! In order to better and more
effectively serve the parents and students of the district,
the Food Service Department, which is currently located in
two different buildings, will be reunited under one roof, at
800 O’Connor.
On September 5th,
2006, the IISD Board of Trustees moved to rename the “IISD
Technology & Staff Development Center” to the “IISD Food
Service Center.” In addition to the new name, the building
is receiving a new roof, a newly modified interior, and a
resurfaced parking lot.
One of the most notable
and user-friendly sections of the building will be the
School Meal Application area. This section of the building
will feature a large reception area for parents/guardians
who wish to complete applications for free/reduced price
meals for their children. Our friendly Food Service
employees will be stationed there to assist district patrons
with questions about the applications.
Another outstanding
feature of the building will be a full-time dedicated
computer laboratory for Food Service employees. Given that
our school cafeterias are becoming more technologically
advanced, there is a great need for computer training. The
lab will enable the department to provide enhanced
technology-related training opportunities for all cafeteria
employees.
The move of the Food
Service Department’s two current locations into the Food
Service Center at 800 O’Connor in mid-late December, 2006,
will benefit the entire IISD community. We look forward to
serving our many customers and district patrons from our new
“home” in 2007!
