Nutrition Week at Lee Britain Elementary April 10-14, 2006
Each day of this week, a different food group will be discussed and presented. A nutrition expert from the Food Service Department will conduct two group sessions each day, one in English and one in Spanish, about the food group, the importance of eating proper portions from each group daily, etc. At the conclusion of the group presentations, the students will then go to their classrooms, for additional nutrition education materials and for taste-testing samples of foods from that day’s food group. A centerpiece of the First Grade
Nutrition Week is a brochure from the Texas Department of Agriculture.
The brochure, titled “A Serving of Fun” describes correct portion
sizes. The brochure does this by comparing portion sizes to object that
children are familiar with: tennis
A number of local and national companies and organizations are generously supporting this nutrition education event, including the United States Department of Agriculture, the Texas Department of Agriculture, DairyMax, Paradise Produce Company, Bimbo Bakeries, Tyson Foods, Inc. and the Lemmons Company. We greatly appreciate the contributions and support of these various organizations. An announcement of the event is posted below. |
