Food Service Promotes Good Nutrition
at Elementary Block Parties
Brown and T.J. Lee elementary
schools both held their annual block parties in September of 2007.
These block parties serve to offer a fun, safe evening for students and
parents alike at their neighborhood schools, and help to forge and
strengthen community ties.
In
the picture to the right, Food Service Department employees participate
at the Brown elementary school Block Party, serving good nutrition by
handing out chilled slices of fresh Texas watermelon. More than 1,000
children and adults attended Brown’s block party on September 27th,
and a fun time was had by all. Music and various booths provided plenty
of entertainment options for visitors.
A week earlier, on September 20th,
T.J. Lee elementary school had their annual block party. Having just
been awarded the nation’s highest school nutrition award, T.J. Lee and
the Food Service Department partnered up once again to put the students
first.
A
contingent of cafeteria and central office employees distributed chilled
Texas watermelon slices and fun handouts that promoted good health and
nutrition. More than 1,000 people attended T.J. Lee’s block party, and
students and parents alike enjoyed the free food, music, dancing, and
entertainment. What a great way to build community spirit and bonds!
The Food Service Department was
honored to be invited to participate in the 2007 block parties by the
outstanding administrators at T.J. Lee and Brown elementary schools. In
September 2008, we hope to make it three consecutive years of
celebrating block parties at both of these wonderful schools.
