Vision Statement:
The Gilbert Elementary
School Library program is an integral part of the educational team and works
collaboratively with students, staff, parents and specialists to provide
resources, information and instruction to all members of the school community.
Our Mission: Each Child, Each Day, Success!
The Gilbert Elementary School Library program promotes reading for purpose and
pleasure and serves as an extension of the classroom by supporting patrons to
effectively access and utilize information using current search methods and a wide variety
of materials.
GILBERT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY GOALS
2005-2006
I. To work collaboratively with teachers
to increase student achievement
II. To continue the use of best
practices that addresses the needs and weaknesses of our school and ultimately
increase student achievement
III. To increase teacher awareness of
materials and resources available through the library program
IV. To enhance professional development

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
 | Collection development- purchase materials on a variety of reading
levels/subject matters based on the curriculum (make purchases of science
materials and books on different genres of priority) |
 | Collection development- weed the collection regularly and systematically
to keep the collection current and up-to-date |
 | Professional development- attend staff development courses, in-services,
conferences, etc. to improve personal and professional skills |
 | Staff awareness- provide staff with lists of materials in the library and
